No, it's nothing overly personal. Well, it is personal but it's not embarrassing. Okay it might be embarrassing but it's not going to get you arrested. Hmm, that is a possibility. Let's just say if it's appropriate to share, share. If it's not, just send me an email! I'll keep it to myself. Promise!
I want to know more about your Holiday Habits and Traditions. Is there something you or your family do to celebrate the season that might be a bit quirky, original, not-yet-discovered and perhaps hasn't yet been included in a Holiday Movie?
It's come to my attention that laying under the Christmas tree to view the lights from the bottom up isn't exactly how most people kick off the season. I'm shocked. Okay, not really. I embrace my quirk.
Christmas isn't Christmas without taking a look at the lights from the bottom. It looks like a forest all decorated for Christmas. I prefer to do this while eating my tangerine or clementine. Of course, I don't eat laying down, that would be a hazard to myself. Choke risk!
I also need an evening (or more) riding around looking at the Christmas lights. Preferably with a tangerine or clementine and a hot drink. Makes it more of an event anytime snacks are involved. And the tackier more festive the better!
Additionally, the topping of the tree has always been important in my household growing up. Dad used to hide it behind his back and let us choose which hand. I never remember not being the one to top the tree. Sometimes I think I might have been the favorite.
Of course, now that I am married, some of the Husband's traditions are now mine as well. We go to mass on Christmas Eve, rotate Baby Jesus in the Naivety Scene (he's in this year!) and practice tasteful decorating for the season. You should see the front steps and door! He's added a couple of decorative trees to the mix. I'll try to remember to take a picture. It's very nice and oh so tasteful! I might have to sneak in a blue light or two!
So, tell me. What are your Holiday Traditions? And if you also lay under the tree to look at the lights, please leave a comment. Email me a picture and I'll post them all here! Or post on your blog. Just share! I need to know I am not the only one with an undiscovered Holiday Tradition! I know Hallmark will be calling for me to help write the script for "Christmas: A View From the Tree Skirt".
Happy Holidays!
Hey, it's nice to see you blogging again.

I used to lie under the tree to look at the lights when I was a kid - it was so magical. I may need to rediscover that tradition!
Jim and I only have one tradition - we paint wood ornaments together. He kicks my butt with the great amount of detail that he paints into each ornament. I get tired/bored after one and start going with broad brush strokes, but he is completely focused, even painting the back of the ornament so that every bit is covered.

I am with you. My brother and I always used to look at the tree from underneath with all the other lights off, of course. We got to open one small present on Christmas Eve.
The other traditions were Christmas cake, my mum makes the most alcoholic, moist fruitcake ever. It puts all other fruitcakes to shame. We always had Christmas crackers at dinner and Christmas pudding for dessert. Can you tell we're English? And the turkey got wrapped in bacon. I'm drooling just thinking about it...

We always have a breakfast casserole Christmas morning. You make it on Christmas Eve (eggs, bread, sausage (or ham or bacon), not sure what else cuz the Husband always makes it) then you put it in the refrigerator and bake the next morning. It saves you time not having to put breakfast together Christmas morning and it is quite yummy!
